Why this matters to me
This all started with the odd one out. Me.
I've never really felt seen.
I've always been the odd one out. The black sheep. The B friend, and that B doesn't stand for “Best.” I've been the square peg everyone keeps trying to shove into a round hole.
As a larger sized person, I've learned that people don't really see you until your body becomes a problem for them. As a cancer mom and cancer wife, I've learned that people only want to see me when it's not too uncomfortable for them. My life is complicated. My mental health is complicated. And I'm over 40, which comes with its own sort of invisibility.
Mostly, I feel unseen. Forgettable. Misunderstood.
And I know I'm not the only one who feels this way.
So, let's end invisibility together.
